Through Sustainable Economic Development
In collaboration and active partnership of NABARD the project of Self Help Groups was initiated in the Buxar block of Buxar district. It has been felt for long that formation of women’s group will enable the organization to assist them in their empowerment through economic independence.
NABARD had requested for the formation of 100 SHGs spanning in 5 panchayat covering 12 villages of the Buxar block. Utilizing this as a platform the capacity of the women involved with SHG and their surroundings are sensitize on various critical issues in the district were 52% of girls are married before 18 years of age and above 90% of women deliver their first child between 15-19 years of age. The prevalence of anaemia among adolescent girls and pregnant women is alarmingly high.
On 8th March these groups, actively assisted by Uddeshya Bharti, organise Women’s Day which is participated by the SHG members and the Women leadership, media, PRI members and the intelligentsia of the entire district. Through this platform the society has been successfully sensitize on the issues of “Delayed age at marriage” health and nutrition of adolescent girls and pregnant women. Reproductive health and safe motherhood have been other aspects on which their capacity has been built showing positive trends.
The process of formation of the SHG is on and 52 groups have already opened their account will banks of the area. Each group is developing it’s own expertise in income generation and NABARD is providing them guidance and training along with financial support through Nationalised banks and facilitated by Uddeshya Bharti.
